A scheme aimed at reducing emissions and making the area nearer schools safer for young children is set to be introduced outside a number of primary schools in the Barnet area under proposals published this week.
Notices from the London Borough of Barnet in this week’s Barnet Borough Times outline the plans to prevent motor vehicles, except permit holders, from entering a designated zone in the vicinity of Edgware Primary School, Colindale Primary School, St Pauls Primary School and St Agnes RC School to help reduce air pollution and the danger from roads during the times of day when parents or carers will be dropping off and collecting children.
If the 'School Streets' order is approved for Edgware Primary School, the new pedestrian and cycle zone will be introduced from 8.30am to 9.30am and 3pm to 4pm from Monday to Friday.
The School Streets zone will be enforced in Fairfield Crescent HA8, between its junctions with Fairfield Avenue and Hemming Road, and in Hemming Road HA8, between its junctions with Fairfield Crescent and Garratt Road, in the vicinity of the school.
The same hours will apply for St Pauls Primary School, subject to the order being confirmed, and the zone will cover The Avenue N11 and Carlisle Place N11.
The order for Colindale Primary School is proposed to apply from 8.15am to 9.15am and 2.45pm to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
During these times motorists without a permit will be unable to use Clovelly Avenue NW9, Poolsford Road NW9 and Woodfield Avenue NW9 between the school and its junction with New Way Road, in the vicinity of the school.
The pedestrian and cycle zone for St Agnes RC School will be implemented from 8.30am to 9.15am and 2.30pm in 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, in Thorverton Road NW2 in the vicinity of the school.
Permits allowing motorists to enter the zones during the restricted times will be available to residents and employees of businesses and organisations at premises located within or accessible only from the area, by application to the council.
The council is now seeking objections and comments on the proposals in writing before it is decided whether the orders should be introduced.
