A woman has died in Potters Bar following a collision with a council tipper van in a residential road.

Police were called to Cranborne Crescent on Thursday at 8.40am following reports of a collision between a Peugeot tipper van and a pedestrian.

A Herts Police spokeswoman said: "Officers attended, alongside the ambulance and fire services.

"Sadly the pedestrian, a woman aged in her 50s, passed away at the scene."

Managing director of Hertsmere Borough Council, Sajida Bijle, said: “I can confirm that yesterday morning one of our smaller waste vehicles used for street cleaning and litter was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in Cranborne Crescent, Potters Bar.

"We are deeply saddened to hear that the female pedestrian has died. 

"Our thoughts and sincere sympathies are with her loved ones. 

"We will, of course, support the police in their investigation into this incident in whatever way we can.”

Herts Police urged anyone who saw the collision or events leading up to it to contact police.

The police spokeswoman confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the crash and has been bailed until Monday, April 5.
