LAST week, dozens of defendants appeared in docks across Lancashire to face justice for the crimes they had committed.

It was a busy week in both the county’s crown courts and magistrates, with people appearing for a variety of offences.

Here are some of the best and most unusual cases from Blackburn Magistrates court in the last week.

Drunk Colne woman tried to set her dogs on police

POLICE called to a domestic at a Colne address were confronted by a drunken woman.

Blackburn magistrates heard when officers went to arrest her in relation to another matter Nicola Wilkinson tried to set her dogs on them.

She also kicked an officer as he tried to handcuff her.

Wilkinson, 35, of Thomas Street, Colne, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker and being the owner of a dog which was dangerously out of control.

She was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months and made subject to a community order for 12 months with six months alcohol treatment requirement and 20 days rehabilitation activity requirement.

She was ordered to pay £100 compensation to the officer and £122 victim surcharge. She was disqualified from keeping dogs for two years.

Banned Blackburn driver caught red-handed by police still pleaded not guilty

A DISQUALIFIED driver seen behind the wheel by two police officers who both recognised him pleaded not guilty when he got to court.

Blackburn magistrates heard Akib Mukhtar was convicted after a trial and the sentencing bench ordered him to pay the full £600 costs.

Mukhtar, 25, of The Hedgerow, Blackburn, was also made subject to a community order for 18 months with 30 days rehabilitation activity requirement and a curfew for four months between 8pm and 8am. He was banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay £95 victim surcharge.

Thug who attacked shopkeeper later suffered 'street justice'

A MAN who assaulted a 62-year-old shopkeeper on Christmas Day later suffered some "street justice."

Blackburn magistrates heard Jonathan Michael O'Brien was attacked and his assailant later posted on facebook saying O'Brien thought he was hard attacking a 62-year-old.

The posting ended: "pathetic little b****, begging on the floor."

O'Brien, 37, of Pleasington Grove, Burnley, pleaded guilty to theft of a bottle of herbal schnapps from Warsi Foodstore and assaulting Sher Khan causing him actual bodily harm.

20-year-old woman launched vicious assault on taxi driver

A WOMAN launched a frenzied attack on a taxi driver when she couldn't pay the fare.

Blackburn magistrates heard the victim was repeatedly scratched to the face by Sasha Amber Holland who also punched and kicked him during the prolonged attack.

She only stopped assaulting him when the police arrived.

Holland, 20, of Nuttall Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Javid Iqbal. She was remanded on bail until April 28 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Shouting and screaming woman lost control in Blackburn Aldi

A WOMAN lost control in a Blackburn store and started throwing things around, narrowly missing a disabled customer.

Blackburn magistrates heard when police arrived Charlie Jackson became aggressive towards them, kicking out and assaulting two of them.

Jackson, 46, of Bolton Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to common assault of the customer by putting her in fear of violence and two charges of assaulting an emergency worker. She was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
