Five people have been arrested after a stabbing last night.

A 29-year-old man was stabbed after reports of a fight in High Road, Whetstone,  at 10.24pm (June 17).

Officers attended and found the man had sustained knife wounds. The victim was taken to a north London hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The Metropolitan Police say they "retain an open mind" concerning the motivation of the attack at this early stage.

The victim's family have also been made aware of the attack.

Five men, aged between 27 and 29, were arrested today (June 18) on suspicion of affray and they currently remain in police custody.

Parts of Whetstone High Road remain closed as investigations continue into the stabbing.

There have been major traffic delays in the area as a result of the closures and motorists are advised to avoid Whetstone town centre where possible.

The bus routes affected include the 34, 234, 263, 326 and N20.
