Barnet people can have their say on a plan designed to shape development in the borough.

Barnet Council has launched a consultation on the latest version of its new draft local plan, which will form the basis on which councillors decide on planning applications.

It comes as the borough faces a target of providing more than 35,000 homes between 2021 and 2036, the period covered by the plan.

The council also aims to deliver up to 67,000sq m of new office space in town centres, a metropolitan town centre at Brent Cross, a regional park and three sports and recreational hubs during the 15-year period.

The regulation 19 local plan – the version that the council seeks to adopt – includes 52 policies and identifies 66 sites that could be used to provide housing.

A public consultation on the document was launched on Monday and will run until Thursday, August 19.

Following the consultation, the document and all written comments will be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for examination in public, which is expected to take place in spring next year. The plan is set to be adopted by the council in late 2022.
