Motorists driving into London are facing possible disruption due to the overnight and weekend closure of a road from an M1 junction for six weeks, while two streets in the Barnet area are set to be shut for more than two months due to roadworks

Notices from Highways England and the London Borough of Barnet in this week’s edition of the Barnet Borough Times detail the extent of the closure at Junction 4 of the M1, and the other roads that will be temporarily shut in the area.

The link road closure, which is to enable a bridge joint to be replaced, waterproofing and all associated works, authorises the overnight and weekend closure of:

The road connecting from the southbound carriageway of the M1 to the southbound carriageway of the A41 at Junction 4 (A41).

The hard shoulder adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the M1 between a point 1130 metres north and a point 350 metres south of the tip of the nosing of the exit slip at Junction 4 (A41), and lane one of the main carriageway adjacent to it.

The works are due to start on or after August 18 and the overnight closures will take place between 10pm and 5.30am, Mondays to Thursdays, and 11pm to 6am on Fridays (maximum periods).

Total weekend closures are scheduled from 10pm on August 20 to 5.30pm on August 23, and the same hours from September 3 to 6.

Traffic affected by the link road closure will be diverted southbound on the M1 to Junction 1 (A406) and return north using the A406, A1 and A41.

Meanwhile, several other roads in and around the Barnet area are due to be temporarily closed for roadworks, starting next week.

Mays Lane EN5 is due to be closed between its junctions with Woodfall Avenue and Eton Avenue for five days from Monday.

Two closures lasting more than two months each are due to start on August 16, each for gas pipe replacement works.

West Avenue N3, at its junction with Nether Street, is due to be shut for 76 days from this date.

Also from August 16, an 82-day closure in the Meadway Gate and Hoop Lane NW11 areas is due to get underway, but these works are due to take place as follows:

The temporarily closure of Meadway Gate between its junction with Temple Fortune Lane and Wild Hatch and Hoop Lane at its junction with Meadway Gate – between September 13 and October 10.

The temporarily closure of Hoop Lane between its junctions with Finchley Road and Hoop Lane Cemetery – between October 11 and November 7.

Also from August 16 but for a shorter 17-day period, Howcroft Crescent is set to closed to vehicles at its southernmost junction with Nether Street, again for gas works.

Heather Work, at its junction with Penshurst Gardens, is another street due to be affected by a closure starting on August 16.

This is to allow a flowmeter to be installed and is expected to last for 12 days.

A one-day closure of Downage NW4, between Nos. 22 and 28, is set to happen the following day, August 17, for crane operations.

East Barnet Road EN4, between its junction with Brookhill Road and St Wilfrid’s Road, is due to be closed for one day on August 22, again for works involving a crane.

Sewer cleaning works mean Burleigh Gardens, between Chase Way and Ashfield Parade, is also due to be shut to motorists on August 22.
