Queues are forming in and around Barnet near petrol stations as motorists continue to flock to stations in search of fuel.

The frantic fuel rush was sparked after concerns from BP were leaked that lorry driver shortages could hamper its ability to maintain fuel deliveries.

Forecourts across the borough have been packed since Friday despite reassurances that there is enough fuel for everyone as long as people purchase normally.

According to Google Maps there is currently congestion around the Esso and Shell garages in New Barnet, as well as the Texaco in Chipping Barnet.

There is also traffic by the BP near Barnet Job Centre.

Not all garages have traffic nearby, although it is unclear whether they have been closed to motorists due to shortages.

The BP on Russell Lane in South Barnet reportedly had long queues again this morning but the stretch is now clear after again running out of fuel.

It comes after onlookers described the traffic as "carnage" in the area over the weekend and dozens of cars gridlocked the Tesco garage near the North Circular on Friday night.

A statement by Shell, ExxonMobile and other industry bodies again insisted there was no national fuel shortage and put pressures down to “temporary spikes in customer demand”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is now thought to be considering sending in troops to drive oil tankers after days of panic buying saw filling stations in many areas run dry.
