If you’re considering letting a dog into your life – could one of these five be your perfect match?
All of these dogs are currently being looked after by the RSPCA Sussex Brighton and East Grinstead Branch.
Along with man’s best friend, they also rescue, rehome, and rehabilitate a host of other unwanted, abandoned and neglected pets including cats, rabbits, small furries, birds, reptiles and wildlife.
The dedicated team of staff and volunteers, based in Patcham, care for around 600 animals every year, saying they are “passionate about animal welfare and doing everything we can to help the area’s neediest animals”.

Caring for around 600 animals each year, the shelter also runs a subsidised neutering scheme and helps pets and wildlife in the community.
The branch covers the area from Worthing to Seaford and up to East Grinstead.
So, if your home needs a tail wager, take a look at these five dogs and see if you can find your new best friend.
Kya
Breed: Dogue de Bordeaux cross
Age: 3 years, Spayed female,
Kya arrived via an RSPCA inspector after her previous owner became homeless.
She was a very anxious girl when she first arrived and very worried when meeting new people, especially men.
While still taking introductions to new people slowly, she is now an affectionate, friendly girl who enjoys a cuddle on your lap, even though she doesn’t fit!
She knows sit and her name on command, is housetrained and enjoys playing with toys, especially a rope or soft teddy which she likes to suck like a comfort blanket.
Kya walks well on the lead most of the time but can be a strong girl when she sees something she would like to chase, such as a rabbit.
She can be reactive with other dogs on walks which is something being worked on but will need further socialisation and a strong owner who can manage this.
Kya has made one doggie friend while at the rescue centre and seems to be better with males than other females.
A very sound sensitive dog, she does not like busy traffic noise so is looking for a new home in a rural location and will need her own garden.
Kya needs an experienced owner without children and with someone prepared to continue her training. She will need to be the only pet in the home.

Wink
Breed: Bichon Frise cross
Age: 7 years
Wink came into the care of the RSPCA as his previous owner was no longer able to look after him.
He is a sweet, friendly boy who can be a little shy at first.
Wink knows sit, paw, other paw and his name on command and is an active boy who enjoys his walks.
He enjoys fuss and attention and would probably not want to be left on his own for too long.
Friendly with other dogs, he can be a little amorous with them - he has only just been neutered. It may be best if he is the only dog in the home.
He will also need a home without very young children.

Pearl
Breed: Cross breed
Age: 18 months
Pearl came in extremely emaciated and very nervous. She still needs to put further weight on but is doing well and is now ready to start looking for a new home.
She is a very loving, friendly girl who soaks up all the cuddles you can give her although she can be a little shy and unsure when meeting new people, especially men.
Pearl knows sit, wait, and leave on command, enjoys her walks and is good on the lead but can be strong if she wants to. She likes to play with toys and because of being starved in the past she loves her food.
Pearl is friendly with other dogs and has been happy to meet dogs of all shapes and sizes. She does like to play with ones she knows and can be quite full-on!
She needs a home without cats or small animals and likes to chase squirrels and rabbits.
Pearl is looking for an experienced dog family and could live with children 14 years or older.
Her new owner will need to be patient with her, and she would benefit from further training.
She will need her own garden and would not suit a very busy, built-up area.

Milo
Breed: Jack Russell
Age: 5 years
Milo's previous owner was no longer able to look after him, so he is looking for a new home.
He is a friendly boy who can be a little shy when he first meets new people. Milo knows sit, paw and his name on command, is housetrained and walks well on the lead. He also likes playing with certain toys.
Milo can be a little worried around other dogs but has already made a couple of friends since he’s been at the rescue centre. He may prefer to be the only dog in the home though.
Milo has not lived with children before so would not be suitable for youngsters. It may be decided he could live with older children following further assessment.

Kion
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross
Age: 4 years
Kion is currently in a foster home while he is receiving treatment for his ears and skin but will be looking for a permanent home soon.
He ended up in the care of the RSPCA as he was too strong for the family member he had been passed on to.
He is a friendly, lively boy who knows sit, down, wait, come, paw, leave, speak, roll-over and his name on command, showing he has obviously had some training in the past.
Kion is also housetrained and loves playing with toys.
He is not overly keen on other dogs at the moment and cannot live with cats so will need to be the only pet in the home.
Kion is looking for a bull breed experienced home with a good-sized garden for him to run around in.
He is not suitable for children under 12 years of age.
Kion does have some ongoing ear problems and may need an operation. His new owner will need to be prepared to work with the RSPCA and their vet to continue this treatment which the charity will be covering the cost for.
