A man was led to safety by firefighters after a fire at a community centre in North Finchley.

Six engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at around 2.40am on Monday in Legion Way.

A marquee was destroyed and most of the single storey centre was damaged.

An LFB spokesperson said the fire is believed to have been accidental, adding: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led a man to safety from a purpose built cabin at the front of the building.

"There were no reports of any injuries.

"The fire originated in a marquee at the rear and spread into an adjoining building."

Crews from Finchley, Hendon, Hornsey, Kentish Town, Northolt and Park Royal fire stations got the fire under control by 5am.
