A pop star who helped feed the world in the Eighties is serving up Cajun cuisine to restaurant goers in Whetstone.

Singer Paul Young has laid his chef's hat at the exclusive N20 bar in High Road, serving dishes influenced by Louisiana-style Cajun cuisine to hungry customers once a week.

The 52-year-old, who had a hatful of top 40 singles in the Eighties, including Wherever I Lay My Hat and Come Back and Stay, satisfies his passion for cooking by rustling up high class dishes at the upmarket restaurant, which is run by his ex-wife and her new partner.

"Friends will say I have always been a gannet and I have a love of food," said Paul, who has appeared on ITV's reality show Hell's Kitchen as well as Celebrity Masterchef.

"I learnt a lot in a short space of time in Hell's Kitchen and this is giving me a good insight into working in a kitchen again.

"Music and cooking are both creative processes and I think it is good to have a second passion."

His signature dish, BBQ prawn, was inspired by a restaurant in New Orleans he visited while touring.

"I have travelled a lot as a musician and I have had the opportunity to taste a lot of food.

"I do like things with a touch of spice and I am always looking to add new dishes," he said.

Mr Young cooks at the restaurant in between touring the country with the Here and Now' show.

Restaurant owner Ilan Slazenger said he and Stacey were happy to have Paul help out at N20.

"We wanted to offer something slightly different," he said. "Paul comes in and prepares all the food himself, and people that come here really enjoy it."
