Two women had to be rescued from a second-floor flat fire in North Finchley on Saturday (March 11).

Firefighters were called High Road at 10.01am following reports of a blaze in the five-roomed flat.

One woman was rescued from the second floor by firefighters using a 32-metre turntable ladder.

Another woman was led to safety from a first floor flat by firefighters via an external staircase.

Both women were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Finchley, Southgate, Hornsey and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said that the fire was under control by 11.38am.

They added that the fire is being treated as accidental and is believed to have been caused by an electrical heater.
