A man has been jailed for manslaughter after he launched a “violent attack” on a man he did not know.

Fabian Botca, 40, of Manor Park Gardens, Edgware, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Marian Cioclu in April.

Police were called to reports that a man had been found with a serious head injury in Station Road, Edgware, on the afternoon of March 19.

Marian, who was 39 years old, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died four days later.

Immediately following the attack, police identified Botca from CCTV images and he was arrested on March 21 after being spotted in the area.

He was initially charged with grievous bodily harm but this was later changed to manslaughter following Marian’s death.

The 40-year-old was jailed for four years and six months at Harrow Crown Court earlier today (June 30).

Detective Chief Inspector, Kelly Allen, who led the investigation, claimed that Marian’s family had been left “searching for answers” as Botca has refused to explain why he attacked the 39-year-old.

DCI Allen said: “This was a violent attack that left Marian with significant head injuries; despite the medical attention he received, he died from his injuries in hospital.

“Florian Botca has never admitted why he attacked Marian leaving his family searching for answers – the pair were not known to each other and our investigation could not establish a motive.”
