The family of a Hendon man murdered in America two years ago has organised a fundraising scheme in his memory.

Alan Senitt, who was 27 and formerly of Brampton Grove, was stabbed to death by a gang in Washington DC in the early hours of July 9, 2006.

Starting on July 9, and to commemorate the second anniversary of his death, The Alan Senitt Memorial Trust, which was set up by his family and friends, is asking people to donate money in amounts that only use the number two.

The 2for2' fundraiser aims to help finance initiatives inspired by Mr Senitt's work, including projects linking mainstream and multi-faith schools and aiding community cohesion.

His mother, Karen, said: "We have taken everything Alan was involved with and want to continue his work by training up future community leaders in the wider society.

"Obviously we can't achieve what Alan would have achieved because he had unique abilities, but his idea was for peace and tolerance, and we hope that we are going to work to create young adults who will take on part of what he was doing and continue it for the benefit of future generations."

A well respected community leader and political activist, Mr Senitt had been the chairman of the Union of Jewish Students, and a spokes-man for other Jewish organisations.

He had represented the Board of Deputies of British Jews in meetings with the former prime minister Tony Blair and worked to reduce Islamophobia and anti-Semitism, before moving to Washington to work on the presidential campaign of the former Governor of Virginia, Mark Warner.

Mrs Senitt added: "I am very proud because of the impact he had on the lives of so many people."
