Two pubs have won prizes for the cleanliness and maintenance of their toilets.

The Beaten Docket in Cricklewood Broadway, Cricklewood, and the Moon Under Water in Varley Parade, Colindale, have both been awarded platinum ratings in the JD Wetherspoon chain's Loo of the Year Awards 2023.

Inspectors made unannounced visits to thousands of toilets at Wetherspoon sites across the UK.

All of the toilets are graded silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond, with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

Beaten Docket manager Costaki Evangelides said it was a "proud achievement".

He added: "It's our company policy that they strive for us to make sure that we check them every single hour so we maintain the highest possible standards we can do.

"We regularly have pre-planned maintenance works and engineers come out to make sure they are all maintained and working correctly, so it's pretty good, a proud achievement."

He added: "The pub's good, it's a very nice environment here and we are very excited for Christmas."

Meanwhile the moon was the only thing that was under water at that pub's loos.

Manager Scott Doman said: "We are delighted with the award.

"Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

The toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

Loo of the Year Awards managing director Becky Wall said: "The toilets at both pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

"The pubs deserve their platinum award."
