THE owners of the Crooked House pub near Dudley have lodged an appeal against the rebuilding of the historic pub that was demolished last year.

The famously wonky old boozer at Himley was gutted by fire on August 5 and subsequently bulldozed two days later last year.

After an investigation, South Staffordshire Council served an enforcement notice on February 27 on the owners for the unlawful demolition of the landmark pub that was beloved by locals and history fans far and wide.

As part of the process, the owners were given 30 days in which to appeal - and the council has confirmed today that an appeal has now been lodged.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are now awaiting a date for the appeal and the appointment of a Planning Inspector.”

The council said an update would be issued as soon as further details are available.

A Staffordshire Police investigation into the circumstances around the blaze, described as arson, continues.
