Armed police arrested a man on Sunday in connection with the murder of a father-of-five in Hull last week.

Officers from Humberside police stormed the house in Woolmead Avenue, West Hendon, along with officers from the Metropolitan Police Service’s firearms unit at about 5pm.

A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned in police custody.

It follows the shooting of Hull man John Rouse on Thursday. He was found dead inside a flat at about 5pm, and a post mortem on Friday gave the cause of death to be from a gun shot wound.

The 45-year-old had five children aged between toddlers and adults.

Detective Superintendent Ray Higgins, of Humberside police said: “This is a sickening crime. This man was callously shot and shown no mercy at all.

“Someone reading this will have some information about the gunman or the weapon.”

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who has any information or knowledge of activity in the Westerdale Grove area of Hull in the past few days to contact them.
