A young boy who was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 fulfilled his dream of one day becoming a policeman when he spent the day at The Metropolitan Police training college last Friday.

Oscar, 6, from Kilburn, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, was issued with his own made-to-measure uniform and a warrant card.

After his induction into the force at the training college in in Aerodrome Road, Hendon, Oscar witnessed a mock theft, where he arrested and questioned the suspect.

He also took part in a police parade and was taken for a drive on a skid pan, a track used by police to train young drivers.

The day was organised by children’s charity Rays of Sunshine.

Afterwards, Oscar said: “I really liked arresting the criminal — that was the best part.”

Oscar’s mother, Brigid Robinson, added: “It is so wonderful he was able to have this experience as he has had a miserable year being in and out of hospital, feeling sick and unable to do the things he used to love.”
