Young people who want to make a difference in their community could be eligible for grants of up to £1,000.

Barnet Council has launched the Breaking Barriers Fund to fund projects which promote good relations between young people from across religious and ethnic divides.

Anyone between the age of 13 and 19 can apply for the cash, and also people with learning disabilities up to the age of 25.

Councillor Mike Freer, leader of the council, said: "We are totally open to ideas - the more imaginative the better. I hope that this scheme will capture the imagination of our young people and lead to a range of positive community action projects."

If you would like to apply, call the Community Grants and Charitable Awards Unit of the council on 020 8359 2096 or email marion.firth@barnet.gov.uk to ask for an application pack.

The closing date for completed applications is 10 March 2009
