Former Times Group editor Dennis Signy has stood down as chairman of Barnet Crime Reduction Panel (CRP) after a decade.
Mr Signy, of Great North Way, Hendon, announced his decision to quit the voluntary post at a meeting last week.
The CRP, launched with a fanfare in 1990 by then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, acted as a forum for police, council and the community.
Its duties are due to be taken up by Barnet's ambitious Community Safety Strategy, launched earlier this year, involving more youth representation.
"I have done ten years from the outset as the panel's community representative but it was time to step down," said Mr Signy.
"Ten years is a long time and they are now changing our role.
"I have no regrets though," he added.
