A NEW festival has been established in Mill Hill to celebrate the best of classical music.

The Classic Mill Hill Festival has been set up by leading members of the London Pro Arte Choir to bring some of the best performers from the area to play in four concerts across a week.

Chairman Molly Scopes, who helped set up the event which starts on Sunday, June 6, said: “There really is a concert for everybody in this festival.”

All the concerts are being held in St Michael's Church, in Flower Lane, which seats around 200 people.

The first concert, the Teatime Tocata, sees Robin Kimbler on the organ playing classics by Widor and Bach at 3pm on Sunday, June 6, with the audience treated to tea as a refreshment.

Nick Warden, a bass-baritone who was bought up in Mill Hill will sing the Night at the Opera concert on Tuesday, June 8.

On the Friday June 11 Alberti Brass, called ‘the buzz of the brass world’ by Classic FM, will take the audience through five centuries of brass music.

The choir themselves give the grand finale with an evening of Handel’s Coronation Anthems and Water Music along with the Esprit ensemble on Saturday, June 12.

Ticket prices vary, although there is an offer of a pass to all four concerts for £20, and they are available from Mill Hill Wines in The Broadway or by calling 020 8346 8367, or visiting www.classicmillhill.org.uk.
