SALON staff helped raise more than £25,000 for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity during a day of fundraising on Sunday.

Dozens of hairdressers, stylists and apprentices from the North London based Hob Salons joined the nationwide HAIRraising appeal which aims to raise more than £1 million towards new operating theatres at the specialist children's hospital.

Teams at the Mill Hill, Temple Fortune, Whetstone and Barnet branches donned styles of fancy dress from pyjamas to school uniforms, while also encouraging customers to play fundraising games and buy home baked cakes.

Prices were also reduced for all the key salon services, and staff worked for free from 10am to 4pm.

HOB’s Creative Director, Akin Konizi, one of the campaign’s co-founders, said: “We’re very proud of all the salon teams that took part in Sunday’s charity day and these salons were instrumental in contributing to the £25,000 that was raised on the day.”

All the salons will continue to collect donations until the end of August with tins at the reception desk and offer raffle prizes.

Barnet salon owner, Eric Habert, said: “Holding this fundraising day has been a great way to give something back and the team have really loved it.

“HAIRraising is such a worth while cause and I am really appreciative of all the local businesses and our amazing clients who have really supported and given to this appeal.”
