THE CANDIDATES hoping to win Barnet’s parliamentary and council seats for the Green Party will take to the streets tomorrow for the final time.

People will have a chance to meet and greet them in the party’s target ward East Finchley and quiz them on policies.

Andrew Newby, a candidate for the East Finchley council seat and Hendon parliamentary candidate, said: "We have had a very positive response from leafleting and canvassing.

“Many people have volunteered their contact details so we have been in touch with these people to invite them to come and have a last-minute talk to us. Anyone else with questions is welcome too."

The Greens will have a stand in East Finchley High Road near Budgens from 10am to around 1pm, with Donald Lyven, their parliamentary candidate for Finchley and Golders Green among the candidates attending.

Mr Newby said: "We know Green policies are popular. Our national policies are in first place in the giant survey of more than 200,000 people on http://voteforpolicies.org.uk, way ahead of Labour Lib Dems and Tories.

“Our main challenge is to persuade voters that there is a chance of us being elected and that a Green vote is a worthwhile vote."

He added: "One option we are highlighting is that people have to the right to vote for different parties in the national and local elections.

“For instance, they could vote Green in the council election while choosing the person in the national election they think best placed to beat Mike Freer. Of course we think that person is Donald Lyven."

The party is also inviting anyone considering voting Green but who can't make it to the stand on Saturday to send in questions to info@barnetgreenparty.co.uk.
