Children from Kenmore Park Middle School in Kenton set a world record last weekend as they took part in the world's largest Pass the Parcel' parade.

As double Olympic Champion Dame Kelly Holmes started the record-breaking attempt, thousands of children from across the capital lined City Road, EC4, between Mansion House and the Honorary Artilley Company, Armoury House to raise money for Treloar's the UK's leading specialist centre providing education, independence training and opportunities for young people with physical disabilities. Hilary Hares, director of fundraising for Treloar Trust, said: "We believe we have set a new world record for the largest publicly-staged children's pass-the-parcel parade in the world and will now be submitting it for inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records. Perhaps more importantly, however, we have raised more than £60,000 for Treloar's to help young physically disabled students."

The world record attempt involved eight to 12-year-old schoolchildren and the unwrapping of a huge parcel with one hundred layers of colourful wrapping over a mile of London street.

Schools throughout London and the southeast took part with a Euro Disney family holiday, iPods, private cinema screenings, West End theatre tickets, and X-Boxes among the parcel prizes. All the schoolchildren involved got a goody bag with a variety of toys and gifts from generous supporters.

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Ald. David Brewer, also took part in the parade, as a whole host of celebrities added to the atmosphere of a very special record attempt.

Heart 106.2 presenter Emma B compered the event and TV actors and personalities Dani Harmer (Tracy Beaker), Louisa Lytton (Ruby Allen, Eastenders), Thomas Sangster (Love Actually, Nanny McPhee), Rory Lewis (Byker Grove), Jennifer Rae Daykin (Nanny McPhee), Luke Hamill (The Bill, Casualty), Julie Fernandez (The Office) and Ade Adepitan (CBBC presenter, Casualty actor and Paralympian wheelchair basketball player) helped lucky prize-winners unwrap donated parcel prizes.

Treloar's, near Alton in Hampshire, was set up by the Lord Mayor of London, Sir William Treloar, 100 years ago and has long-established links with The City and Livery Companies.
