AN MP has written to the head of the Met Police asking for them to start their investigations into the death of a Jewish student in Germany in 2003.

Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer has written to Met commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson asking police to expedite the investigation into the death of Jeremiah Duggan.

A new inquest was ordered into the death of the 22-year-old who got mixed up with a right wing group in Germany called Larouche, after new evidence was put before the High Court.

However, a pre-hearing meeting set for September was cancelled after officers admitted they had not had a chance to review the evidence, but failed to set a new date for the meeting.

Mr freer said: “I appreciate that current cases take priority for the Met but Mr Duggan’s mother, my constituent, has been unfairly waiting for years for a proper inquest.  “Significant questions surrounding Mr Duggan’s death remain unanswered and in light of the previous Government’s apology for delays in proceedings it is only right that a fresh inquest begins soon.”

A previous inquest had ruled Mr Duggan died after running into the path of oncoming traffic, however his mother Erica Duggan says there is evidence of foul play and his injuries are consistent with being beaten around the head.
