AN amateur artist who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer is selling his life works to help raise money for charity.

Alan Habben, of Manor Road, Barnet, is hosting a coffee morning and art sale next Saturday, November 20, to raise funds for Myeloma UK.

The 81-year-old Barnet guild of artists member, who was diagnosed with the disease in May, is aiming to display up to 60 pieces he has painted over the last 75 years.

Alan, a father of four and grandfather of six, hopes to raise as much as £800 by selling his original paintings of scenery.

He said: “I thought I would try and give something back before I pop my clogs.

“I didn't even know what Myeloma was when I was diagnosed. But it is a very nasty thing to have. The charity does a great job and whatever I make I will give back to them.

“I have painted all my life and a lot of artists don't know what to do with the artwork, so I thought I would try to raise some money.

“I hope people will come along and help the charity.”

The event will take place at the lower hall, in Church House, in Wood Street, Barnet, from 10am to 4pm.
