A MAJOR Mill Hill road was closed off yesterday afternoon when a fire broke out at a house.

Police were initially concerned for the welfare of a woman who was unaccounted for when the blaze broke out just before 4.20pm in Hale Lane.

She was later found to be away from the house and safe and well.

Four fire engines and twenty firefighters were called to tackle the flames which damaged part of the ground floor of the semi-detached house.

It took them nearly 90 minutes to have the fire under control, although investigators say it is not deemed as suspicious.
