Police were out and about in Potters Bar at the weekend giving vehicle crime prevention advice.

The town’s safer neighbourhood team spent four hours at Tesco's car park, in Mutton Lane, helping more than 150 people to look after their cars and valuables.

Free tamper-proof numberplate screws were fitted to more than 50 vehicles by Potters Bar company Lanterns.

The work was funded by the Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership (CSP), which involves the police and Hertsmere Borough Council.

PC Dean Edwards said: “The day was very successful and we’re already planning more events like this in the area. I’d like to thank Lanterns for taking time out to spend securing the anti-theft screws.

"Two employees gave up four hours of their company time for the event, which is very much appreciated by the whole team.

“Our thanks are also extended to Tesco for supporting the event and allowing us to use their car park.”
