An Edgware architect is among one of 16 candidates starring in the new series of BBC1’s Apprentice, which began on Wednesday night.

Gabrielle Omar, 29, was the project leader of the girl’s team which lost last night’s challenge.

Ms Omar, however, did manage to avoid being the first casualty of Lord Sugar’s boardroom and was not fired.

The architect got her first job at 14, helping in her parent’s fish and chip shop and she lists her hobbies as running, photography, drawing and travelling.

In her BBC profile, Ms Omar said: “When it comes to business I can be like an animal and I will roar my way to the top.”

In the first episode of the series, the candidates were split into a men’s team and a women’s team and were required to buy £500 worth of goods, create designs to print on them, and then sell them.

The Apprentice, which is now in its eight series, is a reality television show featuring young entrepreneurs who carry out tasks in an attempt to impress business tycoon Lord Alan Sugar.

The winner of the competition will be given £250,000 and Lord Sugar’s experience, to help them turn their business ideas into reality.

This year’s candidates include a professional wrestler, a show jumper, and a shark diver.
