An artist with learning disabilities exhibited her work at a leading London art gallery, last night.

Rachelle Adler, from Hendon, was given the chance to display her work at Norwood’s annual patron’s cocktail party at the Halcyon Gallery, in New Bond Street. Around 40 pieces of work by Norwood users were on display alongside creations by world famous glass sculptor Dale Chihuly.

Ms Adler, who lives in a Norwood residential home, said: “What I like most is painting, but I also like trying different things.

“I am proud that my work is being shown here tonight and I want to thank people for coming to see it.

“I really like selling my art and jewellery and love learning new skills.”

Ms Adler exhibited a painting she had done of space rockets.

Twenty-eight Norwood service users and 150 patrons enjoyed drinks and canapés at a reception and private viewing of the art, organised to thank the patrons.

Ms Adler was exhibiting her work because she is part of a training project called Norwood Gifts, through which people with learning disabilities create jewellery and artwork that is then sold online or at exhibitions and sales.

Norwood provides support and services for people with learning disabilities in North London.
