THE inquest into the deaths of seven people in the 2002 Potters Bar Rail Crash is due to begin today.

Judge Michael Findlay Baker QC has been charged with leading the inquest into the deaths of Austen Kark, Emma Knights, Jonael Schickler, Alexander Ogunwusi, Chia Hsin Lin, Chia Chin Wu, and Agnes Quinlivan.

The hearing, due to last two month, will include evidence from survivors of the crash, which left 76 people injured, and relatives of the seven who died on May 10, 2002.

Judge Baker last week described the time between the derailment and the inquest as “extreme”, and it follows a 2005 rejection by the government of holding a full public inquiry.

The Barnet and Potters Bar Times will be at the first day of the inquest and will be reporting proceedings online.
