Veteran Paul Warhurst could get the chance to roll back the years this weekend.

The Barnet defender may be forced to start Saturday's match at Hartlepool up front.

Warhurst famously moved from defence to attack while at Sheffield Wednesday in the early Nineties, scoring a dozen goals in as many games and earning an England call-up in the process.

And he may be asked to do the same again in a bid to solve the Bees' latest injury crisis.

Manager Paul Fairclough has just one fit striker available for the trip. He may choose to play Magno Vieira as a lone forward in a 4-5-1 formation, or call on Warhurst to partner the youngster.

The 37-year-old has been pushed up front, after coming off the bench, in the last two games, which included Tuesday night's 3-2 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Cheltenham Town.

The ex-Blackburn Rovers Premiership winner said he was not sure if some of his team-mates even knew he once played up front, but will be ready if called upon.

Fairclough added youth player Harry Hunt to his squad for the trip to Cheltenham, as he had no other fit players.

Top scorer Tresor Kandol hit a brace, but is suspended for the Hartlepool match.

Fellow strikers Jason Norville, Giuliano Grazioli and Liam Hatch are all injured. Norville was due to resume training today, though the game is likely to come too early for him. Both Grazioli and Hatch are out long-term, though the former's injury does not look as bad as first feared and he could be back within a couple of weeks.

Cheltenham Town 3 Barnet 2

Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round

Ten minutes of madness at the back cost Barnet a place in the quarter finals of the JP Trophy.

The Bees had taken the lead early on, but collapsed midway through the first half to leave themselves too much to do after the break.

However, their spirited second-half fightback - Barnet dominated and were extremely unlucky not to snatch an equaliser - will have given manager Paul Fairclough much encouragement.

Striker Tresor Kandol took just six minutes to net the first of his two goals. A Jason Puncheon corner caused havoc in the home box, with keeper Shane Higgs tipping a header from Cheltenham defender Keith Lowe on to the bar and out to Kandol, who gleefully nodded home from eight yards.

But the Robins were level on 18 minutes. Damian Spencer drove in a low cross and Grant McCann got ahead of Joe Devera to slam the ball past Ross Flitney.

Within three minutes, a deep cross from Brian Wilson went over Nicky Nicolau and John Melligan arrived to head home.

Before the half-hour mark, Barry Cogan put Devera in trouble, which resulted in Kayode Odejayi bursting into the box, only to be felled by a clumsy challenge from Ismail Yakubu. McCann sent Flitney the wrong way from the spot.

It looked like game over, but Barnet rolled their sleeves up after the break and completely took over, with the hosts struggling to get out of their own half.

Nicky Bailey (twice), Cogan and Devera all tested Higgs with long-range efforts before Kandol struck again on 66 minutes. Puncheon threaded the striker through with a perfectly-timed ball and Kandol calmly side-stepped the advancing Higgs before slotting into an empty net.

Bailey was again denied by another fine save from Higgs two minutes later and then a stretching Kandol somehow headed a Puncheon cross over from almost under the bar.

With 15 minutes to go, Warhurst was put through by Kandol and the makeshift forward clipped the ball past Higgs, only to see it slip inches wide of the post.

With keeper Flitney joining the attack, Simon King had the final chance, but his deflected shot again finished agonisingly wide.

BARNET (4-4-2): Flitney; Devera, Yakubu, King, Nicolau; Cogan, Sinclair, Bailey, Puncheon; Vieira (Warhurst 64), Kandol. Subs not used: Harrison, Gross, Graham, Hunt.

Edgware Town 3 Hertford Town 2 Spartan South Midlands Premier Division Edgware went top after an impressive second-half comeback at the White Lion ground on Saturday.

The Wares showed their exceptional fitness, battling to the last minute of the game to win the tie.

Hertford were a different side to that beaten 3-0 by Edgware in the FA Vase at the beginning of September. With a change of management and new players, they have been scoring plenty of goals.

Indeed, the visitors started well, though neither side could make the breakthrough in an even first half-hour.

Then, in the 36th minute, Michael Bakare combined with Kevin Cooper to set up Ryan Redford, who volleyed in Hertford's opener from 20 yards.

Edgware started the second half in a more determined frame of mind and found the equaliser on 54 minutes. Richard Morton latched on to a poor pass and thundered the ball home from some 20 yards.

But Hertford got their noses back in front, when Redford was pulled back in the box with 20 minutes to go, Cooper converting the spot kick.

The Wares refused to give in and, from one of a number of corners they had forced, they found themselves level again with some ten minutes to go. Vince Rispoli floated in the corner for Mark Buchanan to force home at the back post.

Hertford were now struggling with the pace of the Edgware attack and, when Adam Wallace worked his way into the box, he was cynically scythed down. Morton converted the 84th-minute penalty to secure the points.
