Davids Stephens admits he is not sure why Barnet continue to struggle against the sides in the bottom half of the League Two table.

The Bees were beaten 2-1 at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday and have taken just 13 points from their 16 matches against teams in the bottom half.

The weekend defeat means Barnet are just one point above the relegation zone.

Stephens said: “We recognise that we struggle against the sides around us but we are not sure why. “Maybe subconsciously our mentality going into these games is different. It obviously shouldn’t be and

for me personally every game is the same. Every match for us now is like a cup final because we need the results.”

He continued: “I thought we were cruising (against Plymouth) after we went ahead. Maybe we tried to overplay too much. They put us under some pressure and it has resulted in a goal.

“They have the momentum then and they took it into the second half. They have come out after half time and scored straight away. So that kind of killed the game for us a bit.

“We did try and get back into it. We tried passing it around and then went a bit longer but they stood firm.

“They didn’t cause Bondz (N’Gala) and me too many problems but we have conceded two goals. So we are scratching our heads a bit wondering why that has happened.”
