Hendon’s Ryman Premier Division campaign ended on a sour note as they had two players sent off in a 1-0 defeat at runners-up Lowestoft Town.

The Greens finished the season in tenth place but manager Gary McCann was frustrated with his side’s discipline against the Trawler Boys.

Both sides exchanged early chances but Hendon’s first dismissal of the afternoon occurred in the 18th minute.

Kevin Maclaren was brought down in his own half but reacted by grabbing his opponent by his neck. The referee rightly showed a red card.

The game was goalless at the break and seven minutes after the restart Hendon were reduced to nine men.

A high ball was contested for by James Fisher but he led with his foot and caught his opponent. For the second time the referee flashed the red card.

The winning goal arrived in the 67th minute when Michael Frew fired past Berkley Laurencin. With their reduced numbers, Hendon couldn’t mount a comeback.

Reflecting on the game McCann said: “I was disappointed and frustrated with Kevin’s reaction. I thought I had got through to him. However, I have no doubt he is singled out because his reputation precedes him.”

The Greens boss added: “It has been a long season and in the past week we have been running on empty. We have had a small squad and our busy schedule asked too much of us. But I must thank all of my backroom staff who have worked heroically throughout the season.”
