Edgar Davids believes it is important Barnet continue to integrate players from the club's Academy into the Bees first team despite their relegation from the Football League.

When he joined the club Davids stated that he wanted to help the younger players progres. That has certainly happened.

Elliot Johnson, who made 26 appearances, is undoubtedly the Bees young player of the year while Luke Gambin produced a number of eye-catching performances in his 11 games.

Jamal Lowe, George Sykes and Iffy Allen have all made appearances for the Bees first team this season while young goalkeeper Dillon Barnes has been on the bench several times.

Davids admitted it is important the Bees continue to give the club’s younger players a chance.

He said: “Relegation will hamper it but we need to continue the project. If you budget is tight then that (using the younger players) is one of the most important things.”

Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous echoed the thoughts of Davids. He told the club website: “Our focus moving forward will be to keep the spine of the team together and continue to integrate talented and hungry players from our Academy into our first-team.

“The Academy has already produced the likes of Elliot Johnson, Luke Gambin, Mauro Vilhete, Jamal Lowe, Iffy Allen and George Sykes.

“This is just the beginning, every day players within our youth ranks are growing in ability and desire that will fuel the club to new heights.
