The first matches of the newly formed UK Youth Development League were held on Saturday and, despite strong opposition from teams across south England, Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers came out on top.
As reigning National Junior League champions Harriers, along with five other teams, formed the Premier One group of the Southern Division.
The competition for Under-17 and Under-20 athletes saw Barnet end on 600 points and comfortably ahead of second placed Blackheath & Bromley on 554.5.
The standout performers for Harriers saw Nick Percy (Under-20) throw a new personal best and club record of 60.75m in the discus.
In the B string discus Gregory Thompson (Under-20) achieved a PN of 59.21. Both throws were European Under-20 qualification distance.
