Barnet goalkeeper Graham Stack admits there has been interest in him from other clubs over the summer but believes he has unfinished business with the Bees.

Stack was one of Barnet’s key players last season and despite the club’s relegation, kept 16 clean sheets in 43 matches – the third joint highest in League Two.

The 31-year-old’s fine form resulted in him signing a new contract with the Bees in January which keeps him at The Hive until June 2016.

That deal was agreed prior to Barnet’s relegation but Stack remains loyal to the club.

He said: “I don’t want to go. I know there have been clubs that have shown an interest over the summer; whether they’ve been in contact with the club I don’t know.

“It is not something that interested me anyway to be honest. If a club from the Championship showed an interest it is nice to be highly regarded. But I came out after the Northampton game and said I wanted be a big part of this season.

“I didn’t have any intention to go anywhere and I’ve stuck by that regardless of who has shown an interest.

“I have unfinished business here and I have a lot of responsibility being club captain. That is something I’ve enjoyed and I want to help the younger boys in the squad this season.”

Barnet’s relegation was confirmed on the final day of last season following a 2-0 defeat at Northampton Town.

After that game Stack gave an emotional interview and the goalkeeper admits he was “in bits for two weeks” after the season ended.

However, he believes the Bees have a fresh start and that winning the Conference is the club’s aim.

He said: “We will put the relegation behind us and look forward to a bright future with a new stadium. There are a lot of positives still to look forward to.

“We want to do well this season. The play-offs are a target but winning the league is a priority.”

Barnet retained the majority of last season’s squad over the summer and have added to it with the acquisition of Anthony Acheampong and the permanent signing of Keanu Marsh-Brown.

With several younger players also expected to play a bigger role this season, Stack believes the Bees have a bright future.

He said: “We have cut costs and cut our squad so we are relying on a smaller squad and a smaller budget. So the likes of George Sykes, Iffy Allen, Mauro Vilhete and Luke Gambin are all players that will feature more this season.

“But I think the club have done well to retain a lot of our players from last season. We have a lot of players who all did well and could have got out in the summer.

“The club did well to keep them here and the future is bright. With the gaffer staying it shows a statement of intent and we will see how we get on against Chester on August 10.”
