Barnet assistant coach Ulrich Landvreugd praised a “very good team performance” after the Bees returned from Hereford United with a 1-0 win.

Ahmed Abdulla’s first half header was enough to seal victory for Barnet who are now eighth in the Skrill Premier.

The Bees were without a number of players due to injury and suspension – including head coach Edgar Davids who did not travel to the game – but they produced a resilient display to seal the three points.

“We had pressure on us and we needed a win,” Landvreugd said. “We had injuries and suspensions but it was a very good team performance.

“We had two or three chances in the first half and in the same second half as well. We could have scored the second and if we had got that then maybe the third would have come.”

Barnet had to field a makeshift defence but the back four of Anthony Acheampong, David Stephens, Jack Saville and Mauro Vilhete restricted the Bulls for the majority of the 90 minutes.

Landvreugd said: “It is a big compliment to the back four and the rest of the team. The back four did very well and Stacky (Graham Stack) communicated well at the back. Carl Fletcher was also very important to the team.”

New signing Fletcher went straight into the Bees starting XI. It was his first game in just under two years and Landvreugd was impressed with the 33-year-old.

“We have a young team and we need an experienced player who wants to communicate with the younger lads,” Landvreugd explained.

“People think you only play football with your feet. But you also do it with your head. Carl put people in the right spots and coached on the pitch very well.

“His passing was 100 per cent and he was what we needed. He gave positive motivation to the young players.”
