David Stephens believes the competition for places in the Barnet starting XI is proof of how well the Bees side is currently playing.

Barnet have had several injuries and suspensions in recent weeks and have had to field numerous players out of position.

However, Edgar Davids’ men are unbeaten in their last seven matches and claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.

Stephens believes the players that have come into the side have impressed and said: “The coach said earlier on in the week that he could pick names out of a hat and anyone could play. That just proves how well we are doing at the moment.

“It has taken some time but I think the team are gelling and we are working hard for each other. That is starting to show.”

Stephens produced another strong performance alongside Jack Saville at the weekend and described the victory as “massive”.

He added: “We want to be in and around the play-offs so we have to beat the sides around us.”
