Edgar Davids felt Barnet dominated Cambridge United in this evening’s 2-2 draw at The Hive and the Bees head coach said the decision to disallow George Sykes’ late goal was “horrible”.

Barnet had fallen two goals behind in the first half after a brace in three minutes from U’s striker Kwesi Appiah. However, a thunderous Luisma Villa strike and a Curtis Weston goal meant the game was level at the interval.

Both sides had chances in the second period but the Bees thought they had clinched all three points in stoppage time.

A corner was headed towards goal by Jack Saville but the ball was hacked into the air off the line.

The clearance dropped back into play off the crossbar and Sykes tapped home. But the assistant referee decided the ball had gone out of play and the goal was ruled out.

When asked about the disallowed goal, Davids replied: “You see it back and it is horrible. I thought he was a good referee today but he made two dodgy decisions.”

He continued: “We are all human and we all make mistakes. We made them (Cambridge) look good today. We gave away two stupid goals and they took advantage.

“But overall we dominated the game. We dominated against a team that is 12 points ahead of us in the table. I think that this is a good starting point.”

The Bees head coach admitted Cambridge had been clinical when presented with a chance but believed Barnet showed that they are “a strong side”.

“We showed today that we can play better than Cambridge,” he added: “If you play against a top side like Cambridge, who have the strongest defence in the league, and score twice in 15 minutes then that says something about out qualities.”
