Well it only took eight years and 35 matches. On August 9, 2005, Barnet won at Northampton Town in League Two on Tuesday night.

Since that date Twitter and the iPhone have been invented yet the Bees were unable to claim another Tuesday night away league victory.

But, on a cold night in Dartford, that unwanted record came to an end. Barnet completed a 2-0 win against the Darts thanks to goals from Keanu Marsh-Brown and Luisma Villa.

Bees boss Edgar Davids wasn’t there to see the win, the Dutchman didn’t travel due to illness.

Davids and Kerian Cadogan were replaced in the starting XI by Luke Gambin and Marsh-Brown.

Dartford started brightly and the home side looked effective going forward. Adam Birchall and Jason Prior caused the Bees defence early problems and Elliot Bradbrook forced Graham Stack into a stop after he volleyed a free kick towards goal.

Barnet struggled, partly down to the pitch, to move the ball quickly but on 18 minutes the visitors went ahead. A neat pass from Ahmed Abdulla behind Tyrone Sterling was met by Marsh-Brown and the winger thumped his shot into the roof of the net.

The Bees began to control possession and they added a second goal just past the half hour mark. Villa was fouled on the edge of the area and the Spaniard drilled the resulting free kick past Phil Smith.

The home side hadn’t threatened since going behind but Birchall did volley over Stack’s crossbar from inside the area.

The final chance of the half went to Barnet. A cross wasn’t properly cleared and the ball dropped to George Sykes. The young striker swivelled and volleyed goalwards but his effort was saved by Smith.

The Bees remained in control after the interval and Abdulla came close to adding a third as he saw a well controlled volley saved by Smith.

Dartford had more of the ball at the start of the second period but they were unable to find a way through the Barnet defence and Stack remained underworked.

The Bees seemed content to coast to victory and the pace of their passing dropped. But Gambin did come close as he rattled the post and then crossbar in quick succession.

The hosts did force Stack into a meaningful save as he tipped over a deflected effort from Bradbrook but that seemed to alert Barnet and Marsh-Brown and Curtis Weston both came close for the visitors.

While Dartford did apply late pressure, the Bees defended well and saw out the game comfortably.

It wasn’t their best away performance but, for the first time since that night in Northampton, Barnet fans travelled home from a league game on a Tuesday night celebrating a victory.
