Barnet have bolstered their forward options with the capture of Alfreton Town forward John Akinde on a two-year deal.

Akinde, 24, scored 18 goals in 43 appearances for Alfreton last season after arriving on a free transfer from Portsmouth.

The 6ft2in striker began his career with Ebbsfleet, scoring ten times in 19 league starts to earn a £140,000 move to then-Championship outfit Bristol City.

A succession of loan spells saw the Camberwell-born hitman gain valuable first-team experience at Wycombe Wanderers, Brentford, Bristol Rovers and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Seven goals in just 11 starts with the Chairboys at the end of the 2008/09 season caught the eye and Akinde returned to Adams Park for a six-match loan stay the following season but could not replicate his form, scoring just once.

Akinde joined Crawley Town on a free transfer in 2011 but made just seven starts for the Red Devils - scoring once - before returning to Dagenham and Redbridge on a short-term loan deal.

Signed by Portsmouth on a free transfer in January 2013, Akinde made just three starts for the south coast outfit before firing Alfreton to eighth-place in the Conference last term.

An FA Trophy winner during his stay with Ebbsfleet, Akinde becomes Martin Allen's third summer signing and the second from Alfreton, following in the footsteps of England C international Dan Bradley.

In total, Akinde has 40 league goals in 109 starts.
