A Barnet XI comprised of first team and youth team players were beaten 4-0 by Oxford United in a friendly at The Hive this morning.

Profesional development phase lead coach Ross Eames took charge of a Bees side which included senior professionals Luke Gambin, Sam Cowler, Sam Muggleton, Iffy Allen, Jamal Lowe and George Sykes.

Head coach Martin Allen was in attendance, as was player-coach Graham Stack and academy manager Henry Newman. Midfielder Luisma Villa was also an interested spectator.

The U's had the better chances early on, with Cowler forced into two good early saves. John Campbell put Oxford ahead from the spot following a foul by Tamille Roache to send the visitors in 1-0 up at the break.

Transfer-listed striker Sykes had Barnet's best first-half opportunity, seeing a back-post header tipped over, whilst captain Gambin blazed narrowly over following a good move by the Bees.

Sam Long doubled Oxford's lead after the break with a free header from a corner. Former Watford and Brighton striker Will Hoskins came close to extending the visitors' lead but could not beat Cowler one-on-one.

Hoskins did get in on the act though when he raced onto a through ball and lofted the ball beyond Cowler to make it 3-0.

Wholesale changes saw Barnet introduce Under-18 players Kai McKenzie Lyle, Keir Dickson, Charlie Kennedy, Alfie Cain, Fumnaya Shomotun, Ryan Gondoh and Shane Cojocarel from the final 20 minutes.

Campbell completed the scoring for Oxford by beating Kai McKenzie-Lyle to claim his second of the day.
