Leicester assistant coach Geordan Murphy was full of praise for departing fly-half Freddie Burns after his side's comprehensive 32-10 win over Saracens at Allianz Park secured the Tigers a place in next Sunday's Anglo-Welsh Cup final.

Burns leaves for Bath at the end of the season but his 17 points, including a 90-metre interception try, rewarded Leicester's decision to field the more experienced team.

Their success secured a trip to Sandy Park where they will face the winners of today's other semi-final between Exeter and Harlequins.

George Worth, Ellis Gene and Luke Hamilton were the other Leicester try scorers with Burns converting three and adding two penalties.

Murphy said: "Freddie had a great game as he controlled it and his line-kicking was on fire. He is a really good footballer and has an eye for the interception.

"However, he was running in quicksand for the last 20 metres and just made it.

"He's a really good guy and it's unfortunate how things have turned out but we will make best use of him until the end of the season."

It was Leicester's first-ever win at Allianz Park but it was a thoroughly-deserved one as they capitalised on a good start and easily held Saracens at bay.

Murphy added: "We had a lot of experience out there and the boys got stuck in and played for each other.

"It was important that we got the first score as Saracens can put you under a lot of pressure if they go ahead as it proved in the league fixture here.

"So we focused on that and our forwards deserve a lot of credit by controlling things as some of them have been out for a considerable period and badly needed game time."

Henry Taylor and Matt Gallagher scored tries for an out-gunned Saracens but their academy coach Ian Vass was not too downhearted at the holders exiting the competition.

He said: "It's our first loss at Allianz Park in over a year but it wasn't all about winning or losing.

"It was important for this group to have the experience of playing in a semi-final as they are a whole new group from the one that won this competition two years ago.

"We are frustrated as we never really got into the match for the breakdown area was a mess and it didn't help the flow of the game."
