Barnet reached the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in a decade after a 1-0 home victory over National League North side Stockport County.

Dan Sparkes was brought into the team by John Still and he made an immediate impact by scoring what proved to be the only goal of the game. Cheye Alexander sent in a cross in the eighth minute and Sparkes headed home.

Alexander almost doubled the lead shortly afterwards but his shot was straight at goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe.

The visitors threatened through Adam Thomas but his strike was safely held by Barnet shot stopper Mark Cousins.

Barnet were denied a second goal when Dan Sweeney's header, from a corner, was cleared off the line.

Josh Walker almost profited from a misplaced back pass after the break but his shot was tipped over by Hinchcliffe.

Stockport should have equalised after Cousins let the ball slip out of his grasp but Frank Mulhern fired wide from close range.

County put the Bees under pressure in the closing minutes of the contest but the hosts held out.

Barnet will discover their opponents tonight when the third round draw takes place just after 7.30pm.
