A disappointing spell appears to be over for Enfield Town after a second win in five days moved them back up to fifth in the Bostik Premier Division.

Following a run of five league games without a win, the Towners built on last Tuesday’s morale-boosting 2-1 win at Bognor Regis Town with a convincing 4-1 home victory over Harlow Town on Saturday.

That double success means Andy Leese’s side are now within five points of leaders Dorking Wanderers, although they have played at least one more game than all the sides above them in the table and the chance to build further momentum is halted, at least for the time being, by not having another fixture until Boxing Day.

After Aaron Greene had put the hosts’ first opportunity wide, Harlow saw their penalty appeals waved away when Enfield keeper Joe Wright dived at Christian Scales’ feet.

The Towners were soon to make the breakthrough though, when after initially having his back to goal Greene turned well to steer a shot past Josh Bexon with his right foot.

Harlow were to get back on terms in the 34th minute when Yanick Kissi fed Scales and he passed inside for Tom Hitchcock to accurately find the top corner.

The hosts responded strongly to that setback, with Ryan Blackman firing wide before Muhammadu Faal was twice denied by Bexon after he had also thwarted Mickey Parcell.

But the Towners were to be back in front before the interval when Billy Bricknell converted a penalty after Faal had been fouled by Paul Rodgers.

Enfield man-of-the-match Greene warmed Bexon’s gloves with a stinging drive after the restart, before the points were effectively sealed in the 64th minute.

Following a short corner on the left, the Harlow keeper was forced into another save after Parcell had driven into the area, but Bricknell was in the right place to capitalise on the rebound.

A fourth goal was to follow 13 minutes later when a Greene corner led to confusion in the area and debutant Marc Weatherstone forced the ball over the line.

Weatherstone joined having made more than 450 appearances in two spells for Wingate & Finchley and Leese told the club website: “Marc was another summer target and we are delighted to get him now. He will bring experience, which we feel we need right now.”

The 30-year-old’s arrival has led to Taofiq Olomowewe being released because Enfield “couldn’t guarantee him the regular game time he wants”.
