When Domingos Quina arrived at Vicarage Road from West Ham United in August, he was thought to be a signing for the future.

However, following two impressive performances against Everton and Cardiff City respectively and a goal that has made him a part of Watford history as the club’s youngest ever Premier League goalscorer, the teenager is making an impact earlier than some may have expected.

The deal to bring Quina to the club may not have happened, however, with the signing going through just in time before the transfer window closed.

The Portuguese midfielder explained it was extremely close, but he is delighted the move went through and he was able to join the Hornets.

He said: “I think it was very close, I can’t tell you exactly what minute it was, but it was very close.

“I had lots of options, but my main thing was that I didn’t want to leave England so when Watford came along and I heard their plan I just decided to go for it.

“I’m settled here now and I’m doing what I always wanted, which is to play Premier League football.”

In the few months that Quina has been playing for Watford he is already becoming something of a fan favourite, and after a youth career in which he moved from Benfica to Chelsea to West Ham, he hopes his senior football can be a bit more stable.

When asked where he sees himself next year, Quina said: “Watford. Definitely Watford.”

The Hornets now have a trip to the London Stadium to prepare for, where Quina will be focussed on proving a point against his former employers in a game he is looking forward to.

He said: “I’m excited to go back there. I want us to go there and I want to do well.

“I want to play as many games as I can, not just against West Ham, I want to try to do my best in all of them, so I’m excited to go back there and I hope I play and do well.”
