Southgate confirmed their promotion to the new first division for next season despite losing 3-1 away at Richmond in the Mens Hockey League Conference East.
First-half goals from Simon Mantell and Scott Wall had Richmond in control before John Sterlini pulled one back, but Mantell added his second late on.
The ex-GB forward opened the scoring when he intercepted a pass at the back, leaving him one-on-one with Dewi Roblin and he finished easily.
Wall added the second soon after when he fired in from a goalmouth scramble after Roblin had kept out a penalty corner.
Southgate improved drastically in the second half and got a goal back in the 44th minute when Sterlini converted a penalty stroke.
Joe Warren then had a goal disallowed that prevented Southgate from equalising, and Mantell took advantage by scoring his second to finish the game.
The result confirms a top-six finish for Southgate, but they still have games remaining and will host Old Loughtonians this Saturday at 2.30pm.
