Southgate’s inconsistent run of form continued on Sunday as they were beaten 5-2 by league champions Old Georgians in their final home match of the season.

Thaddeus Rivett and Alex Williams got the goals for Southgate, pulling the game back to 2-2 after Sam Ward and James Tindall had put Old Georgians in front, but the visitors’ quality showed late on when Tindall, Tom Doran and Matthew Ming scored to hand them the points.

A high-tempo start reflected the quality of both sides, but it was the visitors who notched the first of the day when GB international Ward scored at a penalty corner, and the lead was extended by Tindall 10 minutes later when he was given too much space to power a shot past Chris Rae.

The hosts re-grouped at the break and came out firing in the second half, quickly pulling level when Rivett tucked in a rebound and Williams pulled of a sublime finish.

However, their resistance was broken once more when Tindall restored the lead, and late goals from Doran and Ming put the game out of sight.

Southgate’s final game of the season sees them travel to Oxted this Sunday for a 2pm start.
