Barnet suffered a second consecutive defeat in the National League after falling 3-0 to struggling Ebbsfleet United last night.

Quickfire goals from Curtis Weston and Alex Reid had the hosts two goals to the good at the break, and they finished the Bees off in the second half with a third goal from Ayo Obileye.

Darren Currie made just one change from the weekend’s defeat to FC Halifax Town as Mauro Vilhete replaced Charlee Adams. Harry Taylor, meanwhile, returned to the bench after a spell out with injury.

Both sides tested the waters in the early stages of the first half, with Obileye heading wide for the hosts and Simeon Akinola glancing a header off target for Barnet.

Frankie Sutherland then came close for Ebbsfleet again as his long-range effort was fumbled by Scott Loach, and although there was nobody around to finish the rebound, the Fleet did open the scoring just minutes later as Weston’s whipped cross went all the way through and into the net.

Just as they had against Halifax, Barnet failed to regroup after the goal and found themselves two behind almost instantly as Reid picked up a loose ball and slotted past Loach.

At the weekend, Barnet managed to draw level from their two-goal deficit, but there was little sign of that happening this time around. Ephron Mason-Clarke’s effort deflected just wide at the start of the second half in one of their rare attacking moments.

Josh Walker should have halved the deficit when he burst into the Ebbsfleet box and saw his effort saved by Jordan Holmes, and they were made to rue that miss when the hosts finished things off as Obileye smashed home a third.

Defeat drops Barnet down to eighth, and they will look to respond when they return to The Hive this weekend to host Solihull Moors.
