Watford came within a whisker of their first win of the season over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, but a late controversial goal by Dele Alli meant they had to settle for a point.

Nevertheless, the team produced a much improved performance to the ones they offered up in the opening eight games of the season and here's how we rated their individual efforts.

Ben Foster - 6

After performing admirably throughout the game, the goalkeeper was complicit in Tottenham's equaliser when he spilled the ball into the path of Alli.

A breakdown in communication between him and Kiko Femenia presented the England midfielder with an open goal and an easy finish.

Daryl Janmaat - 7

The Dutch full-back was unfortunate to have been taken off when he was after an excellent showing on the right.

He marshalled the advancing Danny Rose particularly well and then pitched in with counter-attacks of his own.

Maybe Could have done better with a couple of chances in front of goal.

Christian Kabasele - 8

The Belgian was the bane of Harry Kane's life during the match.

He kept the England captain quiet, beat him to every second ball and generally looked like someone who could be a key player for the rest of the season. He was outstanding.

Craig Dawson - 7

This performance was chalk and cheese from the rest of his season - the former West Brom man looked assured, solid and importantly was never flustered.

It begs the question, why has he not been doing this before now?

Craig Cathcart - 7

Captained the side and looked a calming influence at the back.

Was steady throughout and frustrated the likes of Lucas Moura and Alli, particularly in the first-half.

Jose Holebas - 7

The Greek full-back performed his defensive duties as well as he should have been throughout the season.

The attacking side of his game suffered a bit as a result, but he worked very hard to prevent Serge Aurier from getting any joy out on the right.

Tom Cleverley - 6.5

Performed his defensive duties diligently and did a lot of the thankless tasks other footballers don't like to do.

Could have contributed more to the attack however.

Nathaniel Chalobah - 7

Mopped up any loose balls in the centre of the park and provided a stern barrier to help sure up the defense.

Recycled play well and allowed other midfielders to get forward and help out a depleted attack.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 8

A first goal of the season capped off a terrific performance from the Frenchman.

His powerful bursts forward gave the Spurs defenders problems and the sang-froid with which he finished off a fluid move was admirable.

Roberto Pereyra - 7.5

The Argentine ran himself into the ground with a very strong performance.

Perhaps could have done a bit better in front of goal with one or two chances, but all-in-all he was very good.

Danny Welbeck - N/A

Unfortunately the England striker went off injured very early on and had no time to make any impact on the match.

SUBS

Gerard Deulofeu - 7

A performance that at times frightened the Spurs defenders, but again in front of goal, his decision making wasn't the greatest.

Kiko Femenia - 4

The full-back just needed to keep things steady for Watford to hold on and get three points. Instead he contributed to a mix-up that gave Spurs an equaliser.

Will Hughes - N/A

Joined the game too late to make an impact.
